William Lewis Amour

We had to say goodbye to William (Bill) Armour on September 7, 2023. He passed away peacefully at home which was his wish. This was made possible through the loving and wonderful care given by of his wife of 61 years, Gail . He was her  top priority and she unselfishly put everything else on hold.

He was born in Statesville on August 28. 1935 to Eleanor and Allen Armour.

In addition to his wife Gail, he is also survived by his son Lewis Brown Armour, a sister Nancy Frankhouser and a brother Shelton Armour.

Bill was a graduate of Catawba College.

Bill cultivated life long friendships at intergon (GMAC) insurance from which he retired with over 30 years service. He possessed a quick and dry wit which was endearing. He spoke his truth and  offered his opinions frankly and colorfully. Being an instigator of foolishness, his favorite quote was,  “I may not always be right but I’m never wrong!”

Bill was an avid reader. He liked  nothing better than sitting down with a good book, a glass of wine and one of Gail’s  delicious home cooked meals.

Bill recreational passion was fishing at Panama City Beach and Coastal North Carolina. He spent several weeks a year there with close friends and fellow fishermen. He was  also an avid fan of UNC Sports.

He will be missed.

The family asks that memorials be made to the donor’s choice or to Trellis Supportive Care at 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103.
