Margaret Strickland Obituary

In Loving Memory of Margaret “Faye” Hill Strickland

Margaret “Faye” Hill Strickland, a truly special lady who never met a stranger, passed away on September 22, 2024, surrounded by her loving family in Greensboro, NC. Born on March 10, 1933, to Lettie Holmes and Clyde Hill.  Faye was a beacon of warmth and kindness in the lives of everyone she knew.

Faye shared 45 beautiful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Chester “Check” Strickland. Their passion for ballroom dancing was a cherished part of their lives, and on any given night, they could be found gracefully moving across the dance floor at Greene’s Supper Club or any other countless venues. After Check passed, she was eager to continue going for a whirl and a twirl at every opportunity embracing the  community dances and music events alongside her daughter Lisa or special friend Herb Hussey of 28 years.

A dedicated stay-at-home mother, Faye ran an in-home daycare where she formed lasting bonds with countless children and families. After closing her daycare, she continued to care for children in their homes while their parents traveled. Among those who became part of her extended family were John, Frankie, Matthew, and Courtney Olmstead. Faye was adored as their “special” grandmother, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Faye also had a successful retail career, particularly enjoying her 25 years at Stein Mart Boutique Department. Faye’s remarkable spirit was evident in her tireless work ethic; she continued to work at the furniture market twice a year well into her 86th year, never slowing down and always eager to stay engaged.

She was preceded in death by her husband Chester, her daughter Beth Martin, her grandson Tyler Rathbone, and many beloved siblings and in-laws. She is survived by her two children, Lisa Strickland of Greensboro and Barry Strickland of Atlanta, along with her last remaining sister, Delores Whitt. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Faye deeply, as well as four cherished grandchildren: Landon Kinsey of Montana, Jenna Kinsey of California, Gabriel Martin of Tennessee, and Eleana Martin of North Carolina.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Rick Janececk and Don Kinnison for their unwavering support during Faye’s difficult times, providing her with love and assistance until her passing.

A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor at the Olmstead residence, 5125 Bunch Road, Summerfield, NC, on November 9, 2024, from 2 PM to 4 PM. Faye wanted a time of gathering for stories, laughter, and fun, and all are welcome. Please join the Olmstead and Strickland families to bring this final wish to fruition.

To her beloved grandchildren, she left a final message: “You may miss me, but I will miss you more.”

Faye's legacy of love, laughter, and connection will continue to resonate with all who, were lucky enough to know her.
