Leon Colen Gant Jr., affectionately known as “Junior,” passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026, at Moses Cone Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Leon was a true warrior who faced life’s challenges with strength, resilience, and determination.
Leon was born to the late Leon Gant Sr. and Annie Neal Gant, who preceded him in death. Leon was also preceded in death by his siblings Shirley Rowe, Janet Morris, Clyde Gant, and Venjamin Gant.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving siblings Patricia Curry (Patrick), Karen Washington (Bobby), Debra Clinton, Pamela Hill (Frederick), Andrew Gant (Lisa). Jermaine Gant (Valerie) and Brian Gant. Leon is also lovingly remembered by his beloved stepchildren Sharell Troxler (Gary) and Alisha Bailey, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Leon graduated from James B. Dudley High School, where he excelled at art and was known for his creativity. His love for art transcended into his automotive career, especially through auto-body painting and repair. He later obtained certification in Auto Body Repair from Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) and used those skills throughout a career in automotive repair that spanned decades.
Those who knew Leon knew he was never one to hold back his opinions, but he also never held back his kindness. Throughout his life, Leon faced many medical battles, yet he never backed down from a challenge. His strength and perseverance were an inspiration to many people.
In his final days, Leon spent time making peace with life and reflecting on the journey he had traveled. He looked ahead with faith and acceptance to the next phase of his life's journey.
“Junior,” as he was lovingly known, will be deeply missed and will always hold a special place in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. The family will respect Leon’s desire not to have a traditional funeral but welcomes those who would like to show their final respects at a short Celebration of Life and Ash Spreading Ceremony.
