Alfred Braley Obituary

Alfred Elmer Braley, 93, of Lewisville, NC, went to be with the Lord on April 3, 2026, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem after a long illness. “Al,” as he was affectionately known, was born at his childhood home in Newport, ME, on February 25, 1933, to Lillian Hope (Whitten) Braley and Elmer Brooks Braley. Al will be remembered for his devotion to family and his service to his country.
Alfred served his country for 42 years in the United States Army and Army National Guard. He served in Korea as a Military Police Officer during the Korean War. Alfred married Miriam Erma Bailey of Corinna, ME, on October 30, 1958. Al and Miriam were married for 57 years and were blessed with four children.
Alfred enjoyed holidays and meals with family, spending time with his grandchildren, telling blonde jokes, listening to books on tape, putting together jigsaw puzzles, and doing crossword puzzles. Al was a member of First Alliance Church in Lexington, NC, where, when he was able, he enjoyed sermons, Bible study, and fellowshipping with friends.
Al is survived by his daughters, Regina (Braley) Skutt of Torrington, CT; Wendy Braley of Lewisville, NC; and Karen (Timothy) Sullivan of Lexington, NC. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Robbie Alciati of Trinity, NC; Sarah Skutt of Winsted, CT; Melanie (John) Newman of Lewisville, NC; Joshua Skutt of Torrington, CT; Paul (Felicia) Skutt of Wallingford, CT; Jeremy (Deena) Braley of Mocksville, NC; Tara (Gabriel) Gulyas of Granite Quarry, NC; Kory (Ashley) Braley; Timothy (Hannah) Sullivan III; and Rebecca Sullivan of Lexington, NC; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; his niece, Debbie (Dennis) Braley of Hermon, ME; and his nephew, Jerry Braley of ME.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian and Elmer; his siblings, Albert (“Curly”) and Jeanette Braley; his wife, Miriam; his daughter, Cindy Martinez; and his sons-in-laws, Shane Martinez and Jeffrey Skutt.
Al will be remembered for his humor and his generous spirit. A memorial service will be held graveside at the Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC.
